TechGirlz is a non-profit that provides free, hands-on technology workshops for middle school girls. We want to inspire girls to explore the possibilities of technology and hope to eventually lessen the gender disparity in the tech professions.
Three free workshops that TechGirlz is running in Philadelphia in the coming weeks:
What’s Inside a Computer at Webjunto (1040 N 2nd Street, Suite 301) on June 3rd – In this workshop, middle school girls will take apart a computer, learn which parts are replaceable, which are most fragile, and which need to be cleaned, then see if they can put it back together again.
Make a Website Using HTML/CSS at RevZilla (4020 South 26th Street) on June 10th – Students will learn HTML & CSS to design and build their own websites using CodePen and then publish them with BitBalloon. Lunch will be provided.
Make a Website Using HTML/CSS (with optional parent workshop) at New York Code + Design Academy (1601 Cherry Street, 8th Floor) on June 10th – Two alumni from the New York Code + Design Academy will teach 6th-8th grade girls how to code their own website. As a bonus there will be a free HTML workshop for adults being held next door.
